01:30 pm: With Teeth: The Procedure
Fixing my jaw will require three professionals, a dentist, an orthodontist and an orthognathic surgeon, all working in concert. My orthodontist will start straightening my teeth with metal braces. After one year or so of straightening, the orthognathic surgeon will see me. After making casts of my bone structure, she will operate on my face, most likely by cutting my jaw and shaving off bone to shorten it on the long side, then bolting it back in place. The screws will stay. I hope they don't set off metal detector alarms like metal plates do. I will look like Quasimodo for some time after the surgery.

This is like having plastic surgery done. A lot of people think that the doctors who remove your wisdom teeth can do this, but it is a major under-the-knife surgery. If it isn't done right or well, you can have all sorts of complications.

Then I get an extra year of braces and follow-up treatment.

All of it will be very uncomfortable and sometimes painful, but I want to keep my teeth.

So thank you very much for all the donations. Damn, I'm just so amazed. Thank you!!

05:26 pm: Updated the donations page and further thanks.
I made the donation drive's page look a little more coherent this morning, which surprises me since I'm all sicky with the con crud today and yesterday. It is also tied into the updates tagged "teeth" on this livejournal.

Further thanks!
I am so impressed with how many people have stepped up since this started. I had no idea it would happen. I was just complaining. In my blog. Like I always do. Whine whine whine. All the time. And then everyone wanted to start donating and linking it went from there. I feel really, really loved, so thank you. Thank you very much. You've already donated over a thousand dollars, and though it's a drop in the bucket, it's a good start! I was discouraged yesterday, but now I feel much more hopeful that I can get this done and come out in one piece.

I'd also like to thank the following people for linking to my problem:
Von and Moggy
Elayne Riggs at Comicmix
Lea Hernandez
Lois2037
Lisa Jonte, again
Rachel
Joe Komenda (my sugar puff love muffin who has been doing an awful lot to help with the donation drive)

There are so many linkbacks I am having trouble keeping track of them all, but I will try!

I'm very fond of the first one, the Secretary. The second dress and the matching coat are both in wool. For such appealing designs, high-quality fabric, and attractive, vintage lines, I'm impressed that the prices all remain within $200. And even more strangely, I like the cheapest the most, with the Secretary weighing in at $125. Usually I find out that what I covet happens to be the most expensive damn thing in the store. But that's still a lot of cash, considering my last dress I bought came for $4.50 from Goodwill. (But a damn fine dress it is!)

I am not buying them or even thinking about it (because of taxes and teeth). I'm just posting them to relieve my feelings of desire. (Sort of like masturbation for fashionistas.)
