Teeth update... seeing new ortho in August.
We're currently at $7560.74 USD. I'd like to thank everyone who has been donating. It's super awesome of you.

I have finally settled on a shirt idea I like. It features Tuna dancing, and I hope to be able to show it to you online shortly.

At the insistent proddings of my mother, I've arranged to see an orthodontist on August 24th. It's the earliest they could take me. This would only be the initial, consulting visit before I get braces. After a year of braces, I get surgery. Six hours of orthognathic surgery totaling about $10k, if I'm lucky.

I've been putting off this visit because we haven't raised $10,000 yet. Now I don't have a job anymore (stupid economy), so I don't know how I'll pay for the monthly braces and the frequent cleanings they entail. But Mom's right. I can't put it off any longer. The pain is getting more frequent.

For what it's worth, you should only need dental cleanings twice a year with braces. That's what they've had me doing.

I've been told frequent is better? I shall ask them when I get them put on. I have really good hygeine.

I had to go up to 3x year from 2x a year while I had braces, but it really depends on the shape of your teeth and ability to floss (some brackets may be too close together at first to get a stiff-ended floss under the wire so you can floss between those teeth). I was lucky because my uncleanable twisted teeth were yanked straight in the first 6 months, which fixed the cleaning problem.

My braces never needed cleaning. I only went in for normal adjustments. That might have had to do with also having a normal dentist who still cleaned my teeth while I had braces.

If you're having trouble keeping them clean (you can't seem to brush them well enough, you see build up that you can't get off, your mouth tastes funny, or someone honest will tell you that you are getting funky breath), then maybe you should go in more frequently. However, if you seem to be doing just dandy on your own, only go in for the amount of cleanings they recommend (probably twice a year, just like a dentist).

I thought I'd add my two cents to the teeth cleaning business. I don't really remember haven't my teeth cleaned by the dentist at all during the time when I had my braces. I just cleaned them as normal and I was all fine. But your situation is different to mine so I can't really make too many comparisons

Good luck with everything honey!

It's ridiculous that you have to pay for a brace at all. I had mine when I was 12. For canines that were too high.

I've never needed to have my teeth cleaned, but I did buy some extra thin brushes to clean in between the teeth. They ended up fine, no bad breath, cavities or filings needed.

I also would donate now I have paypal, however a 403 error is preventing me from getting on there.

403 errors on my site or PayPals? Thanks for the tip! I will see about keeping them clean sans frequent dentist visits.

I can't access your site. I get this friendly message:

Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

1. Have you tried refreshing your browser?

2. What browser (version, too) and computer combo are you using?

I use Safari 3.0.4 and Firefox 2.0.0.16 with a Mac OS X 10.5.2. Refreshing doesn't do anything either.

And it wasn't working in either browser? Huh. I have no idea why this is. Can you send me a copy of that page's source code tocrowhen at yahoo dawt com?

Good Luck with your braces. I know what its like I had to have braces twice and then during my second time having braces I had double jaw surgery.

This is going to sound odd, but...after finding out about your crossbite, I finally realized that my constant jaw pain, the twitch I've developed on the side of my head, and the scarred spot on my inner cheek where I keep biting myself are not the results of stress and anxiety causing me to keep my jaw clenched. I have a crossbite! I never realized it was so serious; my dentist has never even mentioned it, though I'm far from conscientious about bi-annual cleaning, given my income. But my bottom teeth are about a tooth's width away from my top teeth; I guess I'm lucky they only went sideways, and didn't get all twisted up with an underbite and an overbite at the same time.

While it's rather upsetting to realize, because I don't want to have to have braces or surgery (or pay for them), it's also a relief to find there is a physical problem causing these symptoms. Good luck with your orthodontist!

Thanks. I am still nervous! You might want to have your jaw looked at, in case it's getting damaged.
