Donations up...
I have to update the thermometer again. We're up to $6,750.45 USD. Wow. It's staggering. I checked, and I owe at least 21 people artwork. I don't have that many cards. I'll need to get more. That means that at least $2,100 USD of that sum came from 21 people. The rest came from $5-$10 donations. That's amazing that the bulk of the sum total comes from little donations.

It's been great seeing how much every little bit helps, and how even when someone can't give directly, their links and blogs help anyway.

I am not nearly as bitter as I was. Well, unless I start thinking about everyone else in this country with a problem as big or larger than my own, people who aren't lucky enough to have so many folks who care about them. Then I get bitter again :(

But many thanks to everyone who is pitching in. You guys rock!

Speaking as someone who understands that 'looking fine' doesn't mean feeling fine (fibromyalgia, here) as well as someone who nearly died from lack of medical insurance, I just wanted to say that I _completely_ agree with your every word. People don't seem to 'get' social responsibility -- which is stupid, since it is to their own benefit! Help a young person get an education, you get a doctor who might save your life someday rather than a disgruntled McDonald's employee. Help keep a starving young person alive during those fledgling years, and you get someone who will one day contribute more to the tax-pool than they ever took out, which will, in turn, pay for the medical care that you may need when you're older. Give 'breeders' maternity/paternity leave and 'special' treatment like time off to care for sick children, and one day those children will be the ones taking care of your old, lonely, bitter, family-less, friendless ass when you're in the taxpayer (those same useless brats again) funded nursing home someday... (whoops... in case it isn't clear, I'm speaking of the general public, _NOT_ your attitude! Just wanted to be sure it didn't come across the wrong way) It's really nice to see someone who does understand social responsibility, and it's even nicer to see that same someone doing something that causes me to have to set aside my normally cynical expectations of the human race.

So thank you, for that, and I wish you the gentlest, most pain and complication-free procedures possible. Will your fundraiser be continuing through next month? My husband's current job is lovely in many, many ways, but the once-a-month paycheck can be rather sucky when emergencies crop up.
